Chef tossing wings in sauce in the SFK kitchen

Our story

Made with love

Soul food with African roots

Where it started

A kitchen built on second helpings

SFK started the way most soul food does — a family kitchen, a heavy pot and far too much food for the number of people at the table. That generosity is still the whole point.

Look closely at our logo and you'll find the outline of Africa woven into the script. It's a reminder of where these recipes travelled from: West African spice and Southern soul cooking meeting on one plate, in North London.

Everything is 100% halal, seasoned deep and made from scratch — the mac baked to order, the greens slow-cooked with smoked turkey, the wings glazed the moment they leave the fryer. Nothing sits around waiting for you.

We're a small takeaway kitchen, so pre-ordering is the surest way to get exactly what you want, exactly when you want it.

Nia's story

One woman, one pot, one very long night

Nia grew up in a house where the answer to every problem was a plate. Sunday cooking started before church and finished long after dark, with neighbours turning up "just to say hello" at exactly the right moment.

Years later, after cooking for friends, family and every function that would have her, she took over a small unit on Hornsey Road and put the same pots on the stove. No shortcuts, no pre-made sauces, no compromise on halal.

She still writes the specials, still tastes the greens before they leave the kitchen, and still sends people home with more than they ordered. That's the whole business plan, honestly.
